Many communities throughout South Africa are experiencing a drug problem. More and More learners especially are experimenting at a very young age. Primary school learners are smoking cigarettes in large numbers and an unacceptable number are experimenting with marijuana or dagga. Adults are also addicted in large numbers.
The Bikers in Amanzimtoti realize that this scenario also exists in their area. They formed an organization called “Bikers Against Drugs” (BAD). They are serious about dealing with the substance abuse problem in their community. BAD heard about the work that the Anti-Drug Forum did for the past 9 years. They approached the ADF for support in tackling the problem. Brainstorming sessions were held at the ADF Centre with staff and volunteers. Sam Pillay the director of the Anti-Drug Forum also addressed the community leaders in Amanzimtoti.
Sam Pillay said “we are willing to share the 9 years of experience that we have with the substance abuse problem. We have developed effective education and awareness rehab models. The schools have already indicated that they want to adopt our SMART Club initiative in their schools. We believe this is the only way to win this battle. We want to extend our services far and wide.”
The ADF is willing to assist in establishing organizations in all areas. If you would like to assist in any way or require our services you may contact our offices on 031 404 6993/ email us on email@example.com.
